ENVENT 2.1 WOOD SPEAKERS Review Online

ENVENT 2.1 WOOD SPEAKERS - Ideal for soft music

In the 2.1 Wood Speaker, the woofer is made of wood. Envent says the satellite speakers are in a wooden casing, though it is not visible outside.

This stylishly designed set of speakers will fit easily with any PC set and take up very little space on the desktop. The really standout design element for us was the LED light on the volume dial which adds a new dimension to the speakers. However, at times you can get disappointed with the flimsy feel of the speakers, for instance with the cheaplooking pins.

The sound is soft and has a full bass without having any extra controls for the same. In other words, this is not something you should buy if your main purpose in life is to make life hell for your neighbour. But the set is ideal if you like to hear country songs
and blues. And, of course, movies. There is a on/off button at the back of the unit, which we thought would have been better at the sides or incorporated into the volume dial. The volume dial is smooth and increases volume without any of the noise you usually associate with 2.1 speakers.

LOGITECH MINI BOOMBOX Review Online

LOGITECH MINI BOOMBOX with good hardware, quality sound, unreasonable price

The Mini Boombox is so compact and lightweight that it can be easily carried in a handbag. The music controls are placed on the top with a mini-USB port for charging, auxiliary port and an on/off key at the back. Once charged, you can enjoy a wirefree music experience for up to nine hours. Designed to boost the sound of smartphones, tablets and laptops, it seamlessly paired with our iPod Touch. The sound output was loud, a bit of a surprise considering the size of the unit. At full volume, the sound is clear, making this an ideal speaker for a terrace or a garden party.

The Mini Boombox also has an inbuilt mic that can be used for answering the calls when paired with a phone. With an incoming call, the music is automatically muted.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR PHONE SAFE

When mobile phones were used only for calls and text messages, the only fear we had was about losing the phone and contacts. But as more and more features are being added to smartphones, there is a lot more confidential data at risk. And it is not only hackers who are eying your smartphones for sensitive data, there are also others spying on you. Here are some tips to help you in keep your smartphone safe:

Don’t ever leave your phone unattended, especially at public places. Letting it lie in the open gives others an opportunity to access your data. Always carry your phone in the pocket or in the handbag.

Even if you don’t have any sensitive data on your phone, password protection is a must. While in Apple iPhone, BlackBerry and Windows Phone, you can have PIN password, Google’s Android smartphone offers you a host of options—PIN, pattern, face, face and voice recognition (depending on the handset and OS version). Never use your name, birth date, address, car number plate, etc, as the password. In certain devices, there is the option to wipe the phone clean after a defined number of wrong password attempts.

Recently there have been reports about malware attacks targeted at Android phones. This indicates that you should actually consider installing an antivirus software that will scan each and every document, image, web links and even apps and keep the phone protected from unwanted virus attacks. Most of the antivirus softwareavailable on the App Stores are paid ones and offer full protection. Some software also have the option of a remote wipe to remove all data in case the phone is lost.

HOW TO BE SAFE ON SOCIAL NETWORKING WEBSITE

Norton from Symantec recommends the following for users’ safety online:
  • DON’T talk to, or accept friend invitations from unknown senders on social networks, IM, online forums.
  • DON’T post your home address, phone number, pictures or other personal details about yourself on public sites—the information you post will live on these sites forever and can also make you an easier target for creeps and bad guys.
  • DO make sure you have a strong password (See “How to set a safe password”)
  • DO create groups of friends, relatives or other special sub-groups of friends on these social networking platforms and share photos, video and comments to the restricted group.
  • DO limit the access to your profile from search options and make sure you remove unwanted applications or limit their access to your information.
  • DO make sure you select the most secure (i.e. https) settings whenever they are offered, and notifications of account access from new devices.
  • DO maintain an up-to-date browser and OS. Browsers and OS usually improve their security settings and you can benefit from it by updating to the latest ones. Not updating can leave you vulnerable to attacks and could lead to private information being lost or stolen.
  • DO use free online tools such as Norton Safe Web Lite which warns of dangerous websites right in your search results.
